Life of IoT

Hello friend,
Welcome to my life. I want to give you a walk-through of my life from the beginning till the end.  I am not exactly like you but I am a lot like you. Let me explain how!

I took birth in early 1800s and was a Coca Cola mchine, located at the Carnegie Melon Univerity. However,I wasn't officially named untill 1999. Once after my birth, my complete body's operation was controlled by my operating system which is in my body. If any minor injury or defects occurs, then the whole system is not eligible to operate properly and struggles to perform normal operations also.

The operating system of human life is a combination of multiple factors, operations and rules continuously running within a human body. Similarly, for the Internet of Things (IoT) there is a specific operating system to run a device continuously till its end-of-life period.

Every human has a parent, in the same way the father of Internet is Vint Cerf, Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/ IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. I would like to mention that Internet is my heart. Coming to the concept of IoT i.e. my very existence, my father is Kevin Ashton, the innovator who coined the term the Internet of Things (IoT).

Operating systems which are sole basis of my existence such as Contiki (My best of best), RIOT, OpenWSN, Zephyr, TinyOS, Android things, ARM mbed, OpenWRT, Mongoose and many more....

Hope you found my journey so far interesting. Meanwhile, I am thankful to all of you for innovating me progressively every single day.Over 3.9 billion connected devices were in use worldwide in 2016. As per the statistics , it seems that I am here to stay. By 2020, it is estimated that there will be upto 21 billion connected devices. Ending on this note, I hope a bright future for myself and you with new adventures.
How we achieve it lies more in your hands so I leave you with this question!!

Journey at IETF and IIESoc

My day starts with alerts from my phone, reminding me of my daily routine, meetings, events , and many  more activities that make use of internet. For this wonderful and ubiquitous technology popularly known  as “The Internet”  to run effortlessly end to end, a combination of protocols are utilized. Having started career in wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies with WSN protocols for Internet of  Things (IoT), RFCs have been a major support throughout my journey. The initial understanding of all  these mind blowing inventions, made me to go through Request for Comments ( RFC ). RFCs are  worldwide accepted standards for the protocols. After gaining basic understanding of RFCs, I started  exploring Internet Engineering Task Force ( IETF ), which is responsible for developing and standardizing  the protocols on which the internet runs. "Protocols" are technical rule sets -- explicit documents,  procedures, etc., tha...
